How does your diet contribute to fighting depression?

Do you know that diet has an effect on mental health, as a recent medical study on the relationship between diet and mental and emotional health showed that eating healthy food improves mood, reduces negative feelings and reduces bouts of depression.

The writer Michael Easter said in a report published by the magazine "Outside" that previous studies indicate that eating fast food is not beneficial to the brain.

In contrast, people who consume a lot of fruits, vegetables and fish are less at risk of developing depression compared to those who prefer fatty meat, processed carbohydrates and sweets.

And recent research has shown that some diets are more beneficial to mental health than others.

In a recent study published in journal called "Psychological Biology", the researchers analyzed 41 studies to determine the effect of different diets on people with clinical depression.

This research was conducted on a variety of diets, including the Mediterranean diet, the Dash (hypertension diet), and the healthy eating index.

At the end of the research, the Mediterranean diet outperformed the rest.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, this diet is based on the consumption of fruits and vegetables, olive oil, dairy products, grains, legumes, fish, poultry, and moderate amounts of red meat.

The author stated that this diet is among the best diets that will help you to live longer, as it ranked first in a comprehensive analysis of forty diets based on measures, such as its effect on heart health and how easy it is to adhere to it.

In this regard, Drew Ramsay - an associate professor of psychiatry at Columbia University and author of Eat Complete - mentioned that the Mediterranean diet has a positive effect on mental health because it helps fight infections, and these nutrients will affect your mood. And energy levels in your body.

The author quoted Ramzi as saying that "all diets analyzed in this study help to resist the factors that cause depression, and this study concluded that adhering to a healthy diet, especially the Mediterranean diet, and avoiding an inflammatory diet that protects against the risks of depression."

The author explained that there are no specific foods that have magical powers, and through this study, Ramsey concluded that leafy vegetables such as spinach, boiling, and lettuce are rich in anti-depressive nutrients, but the important thing is not the type of leafy vegetables you prefer to eat, but include it in your diet and persist in eating it.

The writer pointed out that these results can have a significant impact on the pattern of nutrition, as many people in the world suffer from depression, and this psychological disorder can affect all aspects of their lives, including the productivity and athletic performance.
